妈妈逼着Kevin到三层阁楼去自我反省，毫不顾及他的苦苦哀求，并且责备他为什么总是制造麻烦，说整晚都不要再见到他了；Kevin一时之间说了气话，要圣诞老人把所有人都变没：显而易见，一大一小两个人都气得鼓鼓的，谁也不肯退让——

        Mom: There are fifteen people in this house and you´re the only one who has to make trouble.
　　Kevin: I´m the only one who is really getting dumped on.
　　Mom: You are the only one acting up. Now get upstairs.
　　Kevin: I am upstairs, dummy! The third floor?
　　Mom: Go.
　　Kevin: It´s scary up there.
　　Mom: Don´t be silly, Fuller will be in for a while.
　　Kevin: I don´t want to sleep with Fuller. You know about him. He wets the bed. He´ll pee all over me. I know it.
　　Mom: Fine, we´ll put him somewhere else.
　　Kevin: I´m sorry.
　　Mom: It´s too late. Get upstairs.
　　Kevin: Everyone in this family hates me!
　　Mom: Then maybe you should ask Santa for a new family.
　　Kevin: I don´t want a new family. I don´t want any family. Families suck!
　　Mom: Just stay up there. I don´t want to see you again for the rest of the night.
　　Kevin: I don´t want to see you for the rest of my whole life. I don´t want to see anybody else either.
　　Mom: I hope you don´t mean that. You´d feel pretty sad if you woke up tomorrow morning and you didn´t have a family.
　　Kevin: No, I wouldn´t.
　　Mom: Then say it again. Maybe it´ll happen. 
       Kevin: I hope I never see any of you jerks again!

        妈妈说Kevin是一家十五口中唯一的一个不断制造麻烦的人。Kevin反驳说，他才是最大的受害者，是所有人的出气筒（get dumped on）。dump原意是倾倒、倾泻（垃圾等）；get on作为一个词组，意思是与别人相处；get on加上一个过去分词的状语dumped，就可以直接翻译成作别人的出气筒。

        下面，妈妈说Kevin是最淘气的那个，act up，淘气、调皮。Kevin用了一个表示吃惊的词dummy（假的，虚构的），相当于really (真的假的？)，表示他不想去。scar原意是疤痕、伤痕，scary就表示可怕的、令人害怕的。

        妈妈安慰他，说Fuller一会儿会在那儿。Kevin更不满意了，他说Fuller尿床（wet the bed），会尿他一身（pee over him）。 

        Kevin觉得家里的每一个人都恨他，妈妈逗他，让他祈祷圣诞老人（Santa）给他一个新的家。ask for是一个词组，表示请求某人做某事。这下Kevin真的伤心了，他赌气地说，不想要家，不想再见到妈妈，不想见到家里的每一个人。——于是，当第二天一早醒来（wake up），他的愿望阴错阳差地实现了的时候，电影的故事就开始了……
