Soaring obesity in US children is creating a dramatic increase in the number taking medicines for type-II diabetes and those with diabetes-related conditions, according to a Financial Times analysis of prescription data.

In addition, an alarming percentage of children taking type-II diabetes drugs were found to be taking drugs for serious adult-like chronic conditions often related to obesity and diabetes such as hypertension, high cholesterol, asthma and joint pain.
