Overseas students hard to find a job upon return

Chinanews, Wuhan, Apr.5 – These days, Wu Li has been a bit anxious. She had used up her parents' 400,000-yuan savings for study abroad. However, when she returned to China wishing to find a good job, her hope was shattered. It is really difficult to find a good job now. How can she earn back the money for her parents?, the Wuhan Evening News reported.

Wu Li's parents are both college teachers. Two years ago, when Wu graduated from the Wuhan University of Technology as a computer science major. She went to study animation production in Australia. In order to pay for her tuition and fees abroad, her parents had used up all the savings in the family.

During this year's Spring Festival, Wu returned to China and intended to find a job.

“At that time, nearly all overseas students, including me, had high expectations of our future jobs. We even had some sort of “principles” in job hunting: we wouldn't accept it unless it was a multinational company, unless the salary was at least 100,000 yuan a year, and unless the company was located in big cities,” she said.

However, after less than a month, she started to realize that most companies would pay only 1,000 yuan for their employees. Even for some large companies, they could only offer a “decent” salary of 3,000 yuan a month. This would mean that in order to earn back the money she paid for her overseas study, she would have to work for more than 20 years.

When she had decided to study abroad, she hoped that she could find a plum job when coming back. But now, it seems that things are not going well as she expected, Wu said.
