China's railways have transported nearly ten million passengers during the first days of the Spring Festival travel peak.

Figures released by the Ministry of Railways on Tuesday show that 9.73 million people traveled by train in the period between last Saturday and Monday.

Officials with the ministry predict that a heavier passenger flow will hit the railway lines in the coming days, and emergency plans have been launched to cope with the travel peak.

This year's Spring Festival travel season started on February 3 and ends in March 14. During these days, Railways are estimated to transport a total of 15.5 million passengers.
